Extended Theme Description:

The Viewport Theme is a clean, advanced theme that features a clean layout and has been featured on Smashing Magazine. Overall, the theme is focused around a clean and simple layout, grabbing the visitor’s attention and drawing them straight to your content/images.

Single pages feature a reduced size of the main image, which is displayed on the main page in a scrollable format (using the Coda Slider). It is recommended that you don’t feature all your images on the main page due to load times (all images are loaded at once). However, this makes it ideal for featuring a few of your best posts.

The header area is quite simple, featuring a small area for placing links to your pages and a subscription link. To the right, there is a search box which displays thumbnails of your posts. When I used the theme in the past, the one feature that I wanted it to have was automatic thumbnail generation, which would have cut down on posting time dramatically. It isn’t a theme that should be used if you aren’t inserting or relating a large image to each of your posts.

To use the theme, you will need to create three images using your preferred editing program (please see release page for details), then use the Custom Fields feature of WordPress to add them in the specified areas. If you don’t want to create multiple images, using a single lead_image will use the large image on all the areas, but resized (still using a large-sized image).

In Version 1.1 of the theme, there have been a number of features added, as well as fixes to the problems that were encountered after the original version was released. You can now add video to the theme, making it ideal for all types of media.

License: The theme has been released under a GPL License, meaning you can use it for all your projects for free and without any restrictions. There are no requirements when it comes to modifying the theme – simply link back to the post if you want to recommend the theme to others.
