Extended Theme Description:
The Smashing MultiMedia Theme, designed by Sarah Neuber, is a flexible and advanced theme designed fro artists, photographers, podcasters, designers, and users. It can showcase either photography or videos, although you can do a combination of different forms of art.
A PSD source file is included, meaning that the theme is completely customizable, no matter what direction you want to take your site in.
On the main page, you can find a main logo/description area, as well as an area for featured posts, complete with your recent images and videos. This makes it great for people who publish photography or other forms of content on a regular basis.
A search box is integrated into the upper portion of the page, making it easy for your visitors to search through your content. Subscription, Twitter, email, comment, and other assorted links can be found to the right of the featured video/image, making it further easier for your visitors to share your content.
A tabbed area is displayed beneath this in the sidebar, along with more content that you have recently published. The theme is easy to use and has been optimized for WordPress, making it simple to create a professional showcase/portfolio to showcase your content.
Without any doubt, I believe that this theme has a lot of potential if you give it a chance. While some of the elements I would change, like the spacing on comments, they are only minor issues, and can be customized using the included PSD file or through the well-commented code. After all, the theme is free, and nothing beats that!
Additional Features:
- Easy Media Embed Method – With shortcodes in the post content area or using a media plugin of your choice, you can easily add images and videos.
- Feature Any Post, Any Category – Easily make any post sticky and appear at the top of the page using a “featured” category.
- Choose and put together your site’s main navigation menu without touching the code in the template files. All available options are included within the theme through the Theme Options panel.
- Choose and put together your site’s category navigation menu, appearing within the sidebar. You don’t have to touch the theme’s code at all, and everything has been included within the Theme Options panel.
- Choose the Type of Splash Image – Change the image displayed for media posts – sliding or static splash image. You can do the same independently for category pages.
- Choose the Type of Post Teaser – This will appear on multiple post pages and is customizable to the word limit through the theme options panel.
- Subpages Appear Dynamically – Sub-pages will appear within your sidebar when created.
- Related Posts – If there are any related posts, they will appear in the single page sidebar. You can customize the number included.
- Eight Independent Widget Areas – There are plenty of areas to place widgets, including on the front page, below the featured area, on the category page, archive page, daily/monthly/yearly/author/tag archives pages, single pages, search pages, and 404 pages.
- Security – Two common security practices have already been implemented for your convenience.
- Spam Prevention – Functions have been included to prevent commenters from posting to non-referring requests.
- Extra Goodies – Extra features will be included with the theme to give you even more features. A PDF is also available, which lists even more features.
Installation: Standard installation rules apply – download, unzip, upload, and activate. Configuration will include additional steps, and you have to know how to use Custom Fields for post images.
