Extended Theme Description:
The Magazeen Theme, designed by We Function is an attractive theme geared towards content producers in the artistic and design inspiration niche. It has been released in collaboration with Smashing Magazine, offering a two to three column layout (depending on how you look at magazine themes) with an emphasis on typography, grids, and of course, the magazine look.
In a more in-depth look, the top of the theme features your logo (textual by default), an integrated search box blended into the black-dark background, followed by links to pages and your RSS feed.
Below this, images for latest articles are displayed, leading them to more efficient browsing. For the most part, individual posts are displayed extremely well, as long as you maintain the default formatting included in the demonstration blog. A small complaint that I see is the wasted space (yes, it helps separate content), which appears to be too much for this theme.
Several other distinct features set the theme apart, including the custom sidebar widgets, related posts drop-down box for categories, and unique, non-three column footer.
Overall, I have to give this theme high marks for what it is upon download – an effective and efficient theme for people who want to showcase content or their work online. You don’t need to have advanced coding skills or knowledge of WordPress to run the theme, either.
Additional Features:
- Two column layout with a magazine look.
- The theme focuses as much as possible on style and functionality to give users something that they normally don’t expect from a standard theme.
- Custom features and options have been built in.
- Easy browsing and navigating through the blog is a high priority with the theme.
- Features a jQuery image showcase at the top of the page.
- Drop-down menu for related posts. When you click a category, a list of posts drops down with related posts from the category.
- Sidebar gives you control, placing featured and recent posts here.
- Overall, the look is very simple, yet with many elements that give it an attractive feel.
Installation: Standard installation rules apply – download, unzip, upload, and activate. Configuration will include additional steps, and you have to know how to use Custom Fields for post images.
Support: The theme designer will support basic requests through email or by leaving a comment on the post.
License: The theme has been released under the GPL, meaning that you can use the theme in all your projects for free and without any restrictions. Please do not redistribute the theme without prior permission (link to article).
