F8 (technically capitalized as f8) is a theme designed for WordPress that can help you take any traditional website and create a fully functional photography or multimedia site.
The basis for the theme was from the f8 aperture setting on cameras, and the designer’s need to create a powerful photography site using a CMS (content management system). F8 is the stunning finished product from the tremendous task undergone five years ago looking for a perfect theme/template.
You may recognize this theme as it is fairly similar to one that was previously released titled f8 Remixed, but this version includes a large rotating image, while the “Remixed” version was static and featured an image text overlay.
F8 displays a large image at the top of the page, a drop-down “More Inside” link, which displays a welcome message, search box, subscription text, previews of your work, and meta/recent posts/pages links at the bottom. This element, while not prominent in the theme, adds a hidden feature for showing more content in the small amount of theme that you are allotted. A negative aspect of this feature is that the search box and other links are included in this area, so you may have to do some configuration if you want to display it in the main area.
Below the main image, there is an grid-based area which displays photo links to your galleries. To the left of this area, there is an area for a “News” post, which displays an excerpt, and an area for “Previous News”, likely from the blog area.
Galleria support is included, which you are seeing a preview of when you view the images at the top of this post.
Another key benefit of this theme is the ability to change most of the display attributes right from your WordPress Admin Panel, from colors, fonts, front page categories, contact information, homepage main photo height and other options, meaning that you don’t have to know much CSS and XHTML to change the way the theme looks and functions.
