The Evolution WordPress Theme from Blogging Tips is the second installment in a series of themes that have been released over the past several months. Along with the other themes, this one also exhibits rather high quality and several features that separate it from other themes targeting the same niche.
Featuring a slick, bold blue and black header bar and a white/tan content/sidebar area, the theme can be used for practically any site that desires a clean look. Overall, the theme was designed with simplicity in mind and for those wanting a theme that is easy to modify, using plugins.
It is necessary that you use the plugins (included in the download file under the Plugins folder) in order to get the theme working the way you want it to.
The default sidebar contains three main areas – a subscription area, recent posts, and recent comments. The theme has been tested and is ready to use in versions of WordPress greater than 2.5. Each footer area (left, center, right) and the sidebar area below the tabbed information box are widget ready, making it easy to add and replace content.
A cool feature that the theme includes is the ability to change stylesheets – style.css, default-blue.css, default-red.css, and default-green.css, which change the colors accordingly. These options give you the ability to switch the colors at any time between blue, green, and red. On the release page, more information related to changing this can be found.
As part of the conclusion, I have to say that this is one of the better looking and feature-rich free themes out there. One of the only things that should be done to improve it is change the default font in the header or reorganize it/extend the area a little more to suit image headers and others that do not like the text portion. This is a diminutive element that can be change dby editing the CSS file.
License: The theme has been released under a Creative Commons License and you can remove the footer link (they would prefer if you kept it, however).
