Extended Theme Description:

The eMagazine Theme from HeadSet Options is their latest free WordPress theme release. One of the main purposes of releasing the theme was to bring a traditional theme back to basics with “an emphasis on visual presentation and with plenty of room for future development.”

Consisting of two fixed right sidebars, and a fixed with, the theme also has advanced functions including touchless CSS edits, content placement and a JavaScript tabber. A future version will have options to move sidebars to the left (or on both sides of content) – current version is 0.8.

I generally like the themes offered by HeadSet Options/Mandarin Musing, although I would customize the theme in the aspect that the Archives pages and search results pages need to be styled to include a title of what the page is showing, e.g. “Archives for June 2008″. Otherwise, there isn’t much that I would modify upon downloading the theme, as it contains most elements that bloggers are looking for in a design.

Support: Support is provided through a dedicated forum/support area of the website.

Additional Features:

  • Works with/has been tested with all versions of WordPress up to version 2.5.x.
  • Featured post area can be utilized by adding a category named “Featured”.
  • Sidebars are widget-ready.
  • Advertising options for sidebars and below posts – can be found in separate theme folder for AdSense code.
  • Theme is search engine optimized, as duplicate post and title tags have been eliminated/optimized.
  • XHTML/CSS Valid.

License Breakdown:

This theme contains two sponsored links in the footer, which make the theme available for free. The theme has been developed as a joint project between Mandarin Musing and HeadSet Options. eMagazine is based off a Joomla template available at IbolDesign.

The theme is protected by a Creative Commons and GPL license. The CSS stylesheet and images have been released under a Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License, and the rest of the theme files have been released under the GNU GPL License. You are required to link back to the theme authors in the footer should you use the CSS and/or images in your redesign projects. Changes to the theme also requires a link back.

There is to be no redistribution of the theme in any way.
